Woman walking on shoulder of I-70 hit by semi in Grand Junction, dies of injuries

A woman died Tuesday night after being hit by a semi-truck on Interstate 70 on the Western Slope.

The incident happened at about 6:30 p.m. near the 26 1/2 overpass in Grand Junction, according to police. The woman was walking on the right shoulder of the eastbound lanes of the highway when she was struck.

The truck driver remained at the scene and was cooperative with investigators, police said.

About three hours after the incident police announced that the woman had died. Her identity was not released. An investigation is ongoing.
