In June of this year, everybody’s favourite producer of bat-shittingly powerful American juggernauts went properly pants-on-head mental when it unveiled its 1,000-hp 883-lb-ft ‘Exorcist’ conversion for owners of the already sprightly Camaro ZL1.
Bear in mind this effectively added the power of a Focus RS to a 650-hp 650 lb-ft Camaro that could already sprint to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds and rupture blood vessels in your nose.
With new grunt came suitably outrageous performance figures. The zero to 100 km/h time went down a further half-second, and the quarter-mile is now done in just 10 seconds flat after the ECU has been recalibrated, intake valves, cylinders and camshafts have been replaced and, of course, Hennessey’s 2.9-litre supercharger was stuffed under the hood.
Whether The Exorcist could actually throw Jason Miller down a flight of stone steps in Georgetown or backhand Ellen Burstyn was never officially confirmed though.
Now, traditionally, the Texas tuners like to celebrate these hyper-exclusive conversions with drag-strip footage that melts both the rear tires and your eardrums, and you’ll dutifully find that at 3m20s in the above video. This time though, Hennessey Performance starts by taking you behind the scenes of the conversion/possession itself.
There’s some oddly satisfying time-lapse at work as the cylinder heads and camshafts are replaced, and new headers are added to give the 6.2-litre ‘LT4’ V8 at the heart of the top-drawer American muscle car an even more impressive set of lungs (“do you know what [they] did?!”).
There’s also multiple clips of the dyno both before and after that enormous 2.9-litre supercharger is bolted in. One could say that the power of…
…nope, too cloying…
