Video: BMW M8 Cabriolet Spied in Its Natural Habitat

The BMW M8 is entering its final testing stage. The car we’ve been reading so much about is going to arrive by the end of the year in both Coupe and Convertible versions. Judging by how good the M850i xDrive models are, I simply can’t wait to see what the full-on M models will be capable off, probably thinking of a way to find the money needed to buy one in the meantime. The M8 Convertible was just spotted in its natural habitat earlier this week.

And by that I mean at the gas station. I recently had a BMW M850i xDrive Convertible for a week for testing purposes – the review is coming soon – and I can attest that this is a thirsty car. Of course, one would expect that and people who can afford to spend 150,000 Euros on such a car won’t have a problem paying for the gas. However, stopping so often to refuel might make you a bit more familiar with the gas station attendants near your home than your might want to.

And if that’s the case with the M850i, I’m guessing the M8 will sip a bit more fuel. That’s because, while it will use a similarly sized engine, it will develop considerably more power. We don’t know the exact figure yet but the engine will definitely be the latest iteration of the S63 4.4-liter V8 found on cars like the F90 M5 right now. BMW claims it will develop at least 625 PS so that may very well be the baseline reading of the M8, while the Competition model could get even more.

Given those facts, the M8 Convertible will most likely be a blast to drive. It will also be blazing quick thanks to its all-wheel drive system while the sound – which is so good in the M850i – will be taken up another notch too.
