Vehicle engulfed by flames on Hwy. 417

The occupants were able to escape safely but a flaming vehicle spewing thick smoke snarled traffic on the eastbound Highway 417 near the Highway 7 interchange Monday morning.

Ottawa Fire Services got the call at 6:42 a.m. and found the vehicle fully engulfed on arrival. They doused the fire and cleared the scene by 7:30 a.m. but reported that the haze and other motorists’ interest in the flaming wreck backed up traffic.

In the event of a car fire, exit the vehicle and don’t return to it for belongs and safely get as far away as possible, the fire service warns.
