The PR disaster that is the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

While the excitement over the highly anticipated Royal Wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle has been brewing for months, it has also had its share of ups and downs in the most public way.

Since the announcement of the couple's engagement, some of Markle's family members have aired out their dirty laundry, raining on this fairytale parade.

While the Royal Household knows how to stage pompery from spectacular weddings to pageants, this particular event hasn't been all smooth sailing.

A report by the Daily Mail focused on some key issues Kensington Palace failed to incorporate in their PR strategy.

1 No homework done on Markle's family

Ever since Harry and Meghan stepped out as an engaged couple, she was not the only one thrust into the spotlight. The world is now familiar with some of the bride-to-be's relatives, particularly her half-sister Samantha, who has frequently made unflattering comments about the royal couple, and her half-brother Thomas Markle Jr, who had recently written and open letter to the prince warning him of Meghan. There's are many questions surrounding why the palace did not forsee these issues or do much before things got out of control, in order to minimise the impact of disaster.

2. Many relatives were not invited to the wedding

It seems the only relative from Meghan's side that will be attending her big wedding is her mother Doria. She only flew in days before the big event.

However, Meghan's father’s brothers received no invite. Frederick Markle, 75, is a bishop of the Eastern Orthodox Catholic Church in America. 78-year-old retired US diplomat Michael Markle, Thomas' other brother, is also not thrilled his niece chose to leave him out of her big day and has made no secret of it.

"This whole invitation thing has not been played out very well," the Daily Mail quoted him.

Adding, "I never did anything to embarrass Meghan. It seems to me they handled the arrangements poorly."

They might be rich and famous, but the royal family is no stranger to dysfunctional relationships. And better attempts could have been made to rectify the situation with the extended family.

3. Harry has not taken the time to meet his future father-in-law

While the prince has travelled the world meeting with people for various purposes, many wonder why he made no attempt to reach out to his future wife's father, despite consistent news of Thomas Markle's poor health.

Thomas released a statement last week saying he had suffered from a heart attack.

Originally Thomas planned on giving away his daughter at the Royal wedding, but was forced to back out after being caught up in controversy over staged photographs with the paparazzi.

Rumour has it that a paparazzi agency had some unflattering pictures of the future Princess's father buying beer and checking into a cheap hotel room in California, according to an article in the NY Post and offered to get rid of them if Thomas posed for some better pictures.

"They told him if he posed, they wouldn’t put out the other pictures. They told him they’d make him look good," said an unnamed source to the NY Post.
