A man accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a woman in a Walmart parking lot in Falcon killed himself Friday night in Aurora after authorities located him, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said.
The attacker had been on the run since the Dec. 5 incident.
That day, a woman was leaving the Walmart in Falcon with groceries, when a man walked toward her unlocked car and got into the back seat, police said. The victim returned her cart and made her way back to her car, police said, when the man held her at gunpoint and told her to drive.
The gunman directed her from the parking lot to a remote location, the sheriff’s office said, where he sexually assaulted her. He then made her drive him back to the Walmart parking lot. At that point, he may have tried to contact another female in a similar manner, authorities said.
Police got a tip that the attacker was in Aurora on Friday. At 9 p.m. the El Paso County Sheriff’s Department and the Aurora Police Department located a suspect in the 1200 block of South Zeno Circle. The suspect subsequently killed himself, police said.
The sheriff’s office has not released the name of the suspect.
