Second person facing additional 60 charges after Parkland County animal cruelty investigation

A second person is facing an additional 60 charges after an RCMP investigation resulted in the seizure of more than 70 animals from a Parkland County property.

On Tuesday, 65 horses and six dogs were removed from a rural property after a collaborative effort between Evansburg RCMP, RCMP Livestock Investigations, Alberta SPCA, Brand Inspectors, Sangudo Veterinary Clinic, Parkland County and Lac St. Anne County.

Three dead horses were previously found on the property.

Ross Andrew Atkinson, 50, has been charged with 60 counts of permitting and/or causing unnecessary pain, suffering or injury to animals, said Evansburg RCMP in a press release Thursday.

Patricia Lynn Moore, 48, is also facing 60 counts of animal cruelty charges.

Atkinson has been released on bail and will appear in Evansburg Provincial Court on Jan. 14.

Evansburg RCMP is reminding the public that and the SPCA do not need funds, feed or any other support for the seized animals. Appropriate care arrangements have already been made.
