San Jose Jazz Summer Fest announces more artists for 2018 lineup

Now, there’s even more reasons to attend the 29th annual San Jose Jazz Summer Fest.

That’s because organizers have announced the second round of artists for the 2018 lineup, including a number of significant Latin and salsa acts set to perform at the festival Aug. 10-12 at Plaza de César Chavez Park in downtown San Jose.

The additions to the lineup include Changüí Majadero, Orquesta Son Mayor, Rumbankete, Boogaloo Assassins, Christian Tambuur and Dominick Farinacci, Wayne Wallace Latin Jazz Septet, Kristen Strom: Moving Day — The Music of John Shifflett, Aaron Abernathy Trio, Doug Beavers, SJZ Collective Reimagines Monk, Lydia Pense & Cold Blood With Fred Ross, Mitch Woods and His Rocket 88’s, Alastair Greene Band, Andre Thierry, Eddie Gale, Jessica Lá Rel, YASSOU, Ghost & the City, Eugenie Jones, La Tenaza Tango Son and Maxx Cabello Jr.

The complete lineup, as it currently stands, is listed below.

A number of these acts will perform on the festival’s ever-popular Salsa Stage, which is booked by radio personality, Betto Arcos.

“None of the bands I’ve booked have performed at Summer Fest before, so it’ll be a first for them and Northern California fans of Latin music,” Arcos says in the news release. “The common denominator here is dance music, but each of the artists are so different and very representative of what’s hot right now in L.A. We’re bringing these bands north to interweave with the amazing acts on the Bay Area salsa and Latin music scene.”

Bruce Labadie, Artistic and Festival Director, sounds excited to have Betto booking the Salsa Stage.

“Betto and I met some years ago and I’ve always been impressed with his knowledge of Latin artists and expertise as a renowned radio host,” Labadie says. “He brings knowledge from the potent Southern California music scene and an intense curiosity about Northern California acts and tastes. His point of view will be invaluable as we continue to present as many artists from Spanish speaking countries into our programming as possible across all Fest stages.”
