The Colorado Rapids have selected University of Denver striker Andre Shinyashiki with the fifth overall pick in the MLS SuperDraft.

Colorado entered the draft with the No. 15 pick, but traded it and $100,000 to Chicago for the No. 5 spot.

Shinyashiki scored a program-record 51 goals in 83 appearances (67 starts) across four seasons at DU. He also holds the Pioneers’ records for points (51) and game-winning goals (19). Twenty-eight of his career goals came in 21 matches as a senior in 2018 with five hat tricks.

The Brazil native was voted first-team All-America by various outlets in 2018 and was the Summit League Offensive Player of the Year as a junior and senior.

The Rapids also signed midfielder Benny Feilhaber to a one-year contract Friday. Feilhaber played for Los Angeles Football Club last season and scored three goals and three assists in 34 appearances (32 starts).
