Police officer suffers ‘minor injuries’ after being dragged by truck

A Saskatoon police officer sustained minor injuries on Tuesday after he was dragged by a reportedly stolen truck while trying to detain a driver.

Around 3:30 p.m., police were dispatched to a gas station in the 1600 block of Idylwyld Drive North for a report of a stolen vehicle. When officers arrived, they located the vehicle, a 2002 grey GMC Sierra, and instructed the driver to get out.

When he refused, an officer attempted to physically detain the man, at which time police say a brief altercation took place. As a result, the suspect tried to flee the area, dragging the officer with him. Police said the officer was assessed by paramedics at the scene.

Police are now asking members of the public to come forward with any information about the truck, which is said to have a “chrome push-bar” on its front. The vehicle was using Saskatchewan licence plate 039 IIE at the time of the incident.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Saskatoon police or Crime Stoppers.
