A person lying on the ice of the Rideau River near the Cummings Bridge was rescued by Ottawa firefighters early Sunday morning, with the help of an ice rescue team and a rope rescue team.
Ottawa Paramedics said the person was conscious and taken to hospital in stable condition.
A 911 caller reported that someone was lying on ice about 100 meters out on the East Side of the river, near the bridge which connects Vanier to Sandy Hill.
It’s unknown how the person got there, but they were conscious when the first team of rescuers made contact, by ice, using specialty equipment.
The shoreline where the person was rescued sits about 10 feet below a ledge, so a rope rescue team was needed to bring the person up to safety.
