Off-duty Westminster police officer involved in shooting at Orchard Town Center

A man involved in an altercation with a person at the Orchard Town Center was shot by an off-duty Westminster police officer Thursday night.

The man who was shot was taken to a hospital, said Cheri Spottke, police spokeswoman.

The officer-involved shooting happened about 7:30 p.m. in the area of West 144th Avenue and I-25.

Two people were involved in an altercation, and two off-duty Westminster officers, who were not in uniform, intervened, Spottke said. One officer was injured by the suspect’s vehicle, and the other officer fired, hitting the suspect.

The officer’s injuries were minor.

Further details about the injuries of the man who was shot were not released Thursday night. Spottke described the incident as being “isolated.”
