The Romanian youth who obtained the best academic results in the last university year in universities across the country and abroad were awarded on Thursday at the 9th edition of the Gala of the Romanian Students Abroad.
The achievements of the 39 finalists were acknowledged through six prize categories: the Romanian student of the year in Europe – university and post-university levels, the Romanian student in North America, the Romanian student of the year on other continents, the Erasmus Romanian student of the year, the Student of the year in Romania.
“The beginning of the year represents a double-fold celebration for the League of Romanian Students Abroad (LSRS). On 8 January the League will reach nine years of activity, nine years of volunteering, of trust and enthusiasm, marked by concrete activities dedicated to Romanians abroad but also to promoting Romania’s image abroad,” president of LSRS Rares Raducanu said, according to Agerpres.
“We know we rank second after Syria for the growth rhythm of the Diaspora, for the immigration rate. These are UN data. When a young person’s biggest dream in a country is to leave, we have a big problem. When so many leave the country, and according to the league’s surveys over half of the Romanian graduates abroad no longer consider returning to Romania we have a problem. And less than a quarter never think coming back. (…) I am telling you this because I am convinced that you care and that you can do something to change that, because that is why you are all in this hall, every year. If not you, if not we, all together, than who, I ask you? (…) Romania can rank first in the world for at least a few things. (…) If you are a Romanian student abroad or a graduate and you are thinking of coming back home, please do. Do not expect the red carpet, we can tell you that from our own experience, do not expect many open doors. Do it because it is hard. Do it because here you can do something, you can leave something behind. Do it because this is home, because maybe you think that Romania can be the first in the world at something,” honorary president of LSRS Sebastian Burduja stated.
Presidential advisor Laurentiu Stefan brought President Klaus Iohannis’s salutation and appreciation for all those who passionately dedicate themselves to academic performance.
