More markets popping up just in time for the holidays

Shopping markets are proliferating everywhere.

It’s the season of giving and various locales in Jersey City are preparing to help you prepare for the holidays.

Shopping markets are proliferating everywhere. Among them are Hudson County Community College’s third annual Holiday Marketplace on Dec. 9 and the the Historic Downtown Special Improvement District Holiday Market on Dec. 10 and on several more dates leading up to Christmas. Also taking place in Harborside on Dec. 9 is the JC Oddities Market. 

The fourth annual JC West Side Holiday Craft Fair is slated for Saturday, Dec. 8 from noon to 6 p.m. at St. Dominic Academy, 2572 Kennedy Blvd. Parking is free. More info at

The Culinary Conference Center at HCCC will be transformed into a winter wonderland on Sunday with a number of activities to please children while parents and caregivers can shop around. The event will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. A family ornament workshop will take place from 1 to 2 p.m. A magic show with balloon animals will also take place from 2 to 3 p.m. followed by face painting from 3 to 4 p.m. Throughout the day, selfie opportunities with Santa will be available from 1 to 4 p.m. Anyone attending is asked to register at

At the HCCC event, local vendors will offer a wide variety of gifts. Vendors include  Abbztract Creations, Be the Difference Clothing, Creative Box, J&J Baskets, Latifa Bounekta Art, Laylani Crafts, The Mexi Boys, Rainbow Fizz, and Sweet Little Sea among others. Some items available include winter accessories, T-shirts, kids toys, bath bombs, decorative pillows, holiday home items, and more. 

The HDSID 2018 Holiday Market is scheduled for Dec. 10., 13, 17, and 20 from 4 to 8 p.m. Residents and visitors can connect with local artisans and take the opportunity to find the right gift. The Market will be held at the Newark Avenue Pedestrian Plaza. 

The HDSID Holiday Market will also run on Dec. 18 and 19 from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Dec. 21 and 22 from 12 to 7 p.m. Additional information can be found by calling 201-547-3554.  

Anyone looking for gifts that are little offbeat can check out the JC Oddities Market at Harborside on Saturday, Dec. 9,  from noon to 5 p.m. Vendors include Mineral and Marrow Apothecary, Sibyl Vain Clothing, and Brain Fever: Artwork by Sammi. The Oddities Market will be held at the Harborside Atrium, 210 Hudson St.
