A few weeks ago Mazda released a teaser of what could have been the Mazda3, showing little but a door panel and a quarter panel, but now the automaker’s taken the mystery out of the machine and confirmed the Mazda3 will indeed be revealed at the 2018 LA Auto Show.
As we thought, the Mazda3 will take styling cues from the Kai concept and embody the Kodo design language.
The latest teaser from Mazda clearly shows a red hatchback and a silver sedan, confirming there will be two versions of the new Mazda3.
Mazda did not strictly confirm the new car will have the compression-ignition gasoline engine it’s been working on, but did say it would feature next-generation SkyActiv Vehicle Architecture, which improves sound deadening to reduce noise and vibration while adding more rigidity and space in the cabin.
Not much more information was released, so we’re assuming the Mazda3 still loses its multi-link rear suspension in favour of a torsion beam setup, which increases real estate and removes weight, but could have an adverse effect on handling.
Pricing and release date has still not been announced, but at least now we know where we can ask all the important questions. The LA auto show runs from November 30th to December 9th.
