Randy O. White's body was found by a passerby last week in Penns Grove
A homicide victim found in the side yard of a South Jersey home last week died of a single gunshot to the upper body, investigators revealed Thursday.
Randy O. White, 27, of Penns Grove, was found late Friday morning on South Broad Street in the borough. A passerby spotted the body, police said.
A search for the shooter continues, confirmed Penns Grove Police Chief John T. Stranahan Sr.
While White was a borough resident, he didn’t live in the area where he was found, Stranahan noted.
A small memorial, including candles, flowers, balloons and stuffed animals, was left near the crime scene, and family members held a vigil at the spot on Tuesday.
A funeral service is planned for Friday.
While residents on either side of the location were White was found did not answer their doors on a recent afternoon, another resident on the street said he’s concerned about crime in his neighborhood.
“That’s why I stay in the house,” said Jeffery Terrell, who has lived on South Broad for a few years. “It’s getting a little rough around here. If I take the kids out, it’s out back.”
Anyone with information about White’s death is asked to call Detective Sgt. Jason Spera at 856-299-0304, Detective Jim Gillespie at 856-935-7510 or Penns Grove’s main police dispatch number at 856-299-0055.
