A man has been charged with murder in connection with the death of a Burnaby woman in a car crash on the Barnet Highway two weeks ago.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team says Jan Poepl, 31 is charged with second degree murder in connection with the death of 34-year-old Nicole Hasselmann.
Poepl will appear before a judge in B.C. Provincial Court on Friday.
IHIT says the homicide was an isolated incident and those involved were known to each other.
On Nov. 16, at approximately 10 p.m., the Burnaby RCMP received a report of a motor vehicle incident involving a 2017 charcoal grey Kia Sorento SUV in the 8000-block of Barnet Highway.
When police arrived, they found an unconscious man in the vehicle and a woman, who had been ejected from the vehicle.
Both the driver and the passenger were taken to hospital where the woman died from her injuries, according to Burnaby RCMP.
Due to the suspicious nature of Hasselmann’s death, IHIT was called in to take conduct of the investigation.
