A man acting erratically including repeatedly running into the middle of Interstate 70 was struck and killed Friday morning near Burlington, troopers say.
The Colorado State Patrol closed all lanes of westbound I-70 around 7 a.m. and is diverting traffic onto Highway 24, said Trooper Gary Cutler, CSP spokesman.
CSP received six emergency calls about a man driving a white Jeep Liberty erratically on the highway. He was repeatedly stopping his car, running out onto the highway and then getting back into his Jeep and driving again, Cutler said.
Light snow was falling when he stopped a third time on the highway, got out of his Jeep and ran into the road. This time he was struck and killed, Cutler said.
“I don’t know why he was doing odd things,” he said.
Troopers are currently investigating the crash, Cutler said.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
WB I-70 is closed at Burlington. You will be rerouted to Hwy 24. Please slow down and be prepared.
