Shanann Watts was living happily before her husband murdered her and her two young daughters, her parents told a national television program.

“She was extremely happy,” Frank Rzucek said.

The first interview with Shanann Watts’ parents since the Aug. 13 murder of their daughter and two granddaughters will air 8 p.m. Friday on ABC’s 20/20. The show also features interviews with Shanann Watts’ friends and law enforcement, the network said in a news release.

Christopher Watts, Shanann’s husband, was sentenced in November to life in prison for the murders of his pregnant wife and two daughters, 3-year-old Celeste and 4-year-old Bella. The case quickly captured the national attention after Shanann and her daughters were reported missing, and Christopher Watts appeared on local television begging for his family’s return. He was arrested in their killings two days later.

Shanann Watts would do anything for her daughters, her parents told ABC 20/20. She was a hard worker and had friends across the country, they said.

“She was fun. Full of life,” Sandra Rzucek said. “She did so many things. She had her hand in everything.”
