‘I couldn’t believe it’: Edmonton woman wins $1 million lottery

One lucky Edmontonian will be celebrating Christmas this year a millionaire.

Lorna Altre says her parents were in town visiting and her father needed something to do, so she gave him some money and asked him to pick up some lottery tickets.

“The weekend went by and suddenly he showed up at my work with the ticket and told me I won the lottery,” Altre said in a Friday news release. “I couldn’t believe it.”

The $7 winning LOTTO 6/49 ticket was was purchased on Sept. 26 at the 7-Eleven store located at 341 Kirkness Road NW in Edmonton.

Altre says it’s taken sometime to get used to being a millionaire and doesn’t have an specific plans yet for her winnings.

“Right now I’m just enjoying the thought of having a million dollars,” she said. “It’s such a great opportunity and it’s very overwhelming. Eventually I’ll make actual plans for the money.”
