The Happy Dog will grill its last sausages and franks this week.
The small restaurant in the Naglee Park neighborhood near San Jose State University plans to close at the end of business Friday, April 20. Or Thursday if the inventory of kielbasa, bockwurst, linguica and other sausages runs out by then.
“I enjoy having students come here everyday and want them to enjoy reasonable prices,” co-owner Joe Dinh said, noting that costs continue to rise and he doesn’t want to increase prices any further.
“I want to tell everyone, ‘Thanks for the community support,’ ” he added.
There’s been a hot doggery in this location for several years, ever since a former employee of the popular Top Dog in Berkeley decided San Jose needed one.
So under that ownership and the current ownership, the upscale sausages and franks have come from Top Dog and the sesame-seeded French rolls from Bordenave’s, a century-old Bay Area bakery.
Details: Happy Dog will be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at 284 S. 11th St.; 408-298-3647.
