Genesis, Hyundai and Ram take top 2019 North American Car of the Year awards

Voted on by no fewer than 60 North American journalists – including your humble Motor Mouth – the North American Car, Utility and Truck of the Year (NACTOY) prizes are the highlights of automotive award season.

Besides that, they’re the ones that automakers, at least those that ply their trade in the United States, pay the most attention to.

Winnowed down from more than 20 entrants, the finalists for the “car” portion of the honours were Genesis’s new G70, Honda’s Insight and Volvo’s latest S60/V60 combination, Genesis getting the much-deserved nod for car of the year.

Meanwhile, in the “utility” category – a fairly loosely defined class including everything from crossovers to minivans and, as it turns out, electric vehicles – Hyundai’s Kona, both electric and gas-powered, triumphed over the Acura RDX and Jaguar’s I-Pace.
