Firefighters battle large brush fire near Cranberry Flats

Members of the Saskatoon Fire Department worked into the evening on Tuesday to bring a large brush fire burning near Cranberry Flats Conservation Area under control.

The fire department received the initial report about the the fire just after 2 p.m., and was told trees were on fire in a yard near Riverside Estates, which is a neighbourhood close to Strathcona Avenue.

The brush fire burned toward Cranberry Flats and firefighters tried to work defensively to protect homes and livestock. According to a fire department media release, water tankers were moving water to the area while fire engines and brush trucks were also being used as part of the fire fighting efforts.

The Corman Park Police Service was also on scene to direct traffic. The fire department has asked drivers to avoid the area.

No information about a possible cause was provided in the media release.
