Festival Pass for Thursday, Dec. 6

The first show I saw at the Forum in Inglewood was when Metallica played there on the “Death Magnetic” tour 10 years ago. Back then it was the Great Western Forum and I was excited to finally see a show at the venue I had read about in countless music biographies.

I wasn’t even working–I was there as a civilian Metallica fan with my then-fiancé. I took a cell phone photo where it was just my hand in the metal sign with my engagement ring prominently featured with Metallica on the stage far below our nosebleed seats in the background. I wanted to send it out as our “save the date,” but my plan was vetoed.

The show was good, but it didn’t even make the list that Kelli Skye Fadroski compiled of 50 acts that have played the Forum over its 50-year history. She also put together a list of live albums recorded there.

Party on the beach: There’s a new festival coming to Redondo Beach in May and organizers are promising some big acts. Among those putting on the new BeachLife festival are Saint Rocke owner Allen Sanford and Pennywise frontman Jim Lindberg.

Energy in LA: The Red Bull Music Festival, a multi-week concert series with events all over Los Angeles, has announced its first round of artists for 2019. One of them is Robyn, who will kick off her North American tour in support of new album “Honey” during the series. Find out which artists have been announced so far and how to get tickets.

A half-century of music: The Forum in Inglewood turned 50 this year. We took a look back at 50 artists who have played the venue, including the star who holds the record for most performances there. We also put together a list of the unforgettable live albums recorded there.

A festival for good: The One Love Malibu Festival had to change venues because of rain last week, but it brought together stars such as Gwen Stefani and Katy Perry to raise funds in the wake of the devastating Woolsey fire. Here’s what happened.
