Diwali celebrations continue in Saskatoon throughout the weekend. One of them will mark the end of this year’s festivities at the Shri Lakshmi Naryan temple on Sunday.
The most significant holiday in India, Diwali is known as the festival of lights. Members of the Hindu community in Saskatoon observe Diwali, which fell on Nov. 7, and have been marking it with celebrations, which started at the end of October.
At the Shri Lakshmi Naryan Temple, an event featuring religious worship services, or pujas, is open to all and will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday. Three hundred people are expected to attend.
Ajay Dalai, president of the Hindu Society of Saskatchewan, said it’s a time to ask for blessings of happiness, prosperity and good health. Lakshmi, the goddess of prosperity, is considered to be a mother figure in the Hindu faith.
