Fan Expo Vancouver will feature Star Trek actor George Takei

Fan Expo Vancouver announced Friday that next year’s event will feature an appearance by Star Trek actor and activist George Takei.

Takei is best known for his role as Hikaru Sulu, helmsman of the USS Enterprise in the original Star Trek television series, a role he reprised in six Star Trek films.

He recently appeared on Broadway in Allegiance, a musical based on his life experiences in Japanese American internment camps during WWII. He is also a well-known activist for human rights and fights for LGBTQ rights.

Early bird tickets are on sale for 8th annual Fan Expo, which will take place March 1 to March 3 at Vancouver Convention Centre West.

Fan Expo is a three-day pop culture event which brings together fans and television and movie stars. Many of those attending the conferences dress in cosplay.

Tickets start at $25 at for adults and there are discounts for youth and family passes.
