Edmonton police to provide update in suspicious deaths of two children

Edmonton police are expected to release more information Friday morning about the suspicious death of two children at an apartment complex in the city’s southeast earlier this week.

Police were called to an apartment in the area of 79 Avenue and 71 Street in the King Edward Park neighbourhood Wednesday afternoon for a report that a woman had been assaulted.

About three hours later, police were called to a garage break-in a few blocks away, at 73 Street and 80 Avenue, and found a man who was reportedly acting erratically.

Officers determined that the man was a suspect in the earlier assault and arrested him. Further investigations led police back to an apartment where the kids were found dead.

Forensic investigators remained on scene all day Thursday and were combing not only the basement apartment but dumpsters outside in the alley.

Despite the entire apartment complex being taped off with crime tape and police cruisers stationed on two sides of the building, residents were allowed to come and go freely.

The police media availability will be at 9:30 a.m. at police headquarters.
