Edmonton police called in to investigate Inuvik man’s death

RCMP have called in Edmonton police to investigate after a wanted man from Inuvik, NT, went missing and was found dead last weekend.

Northwest Territories RCMP said Richard Binder Jr., 35, had several warrants out for his arrest when he was reported missing on Oct. 28.

In a Monday news release, RCMP said they received a call at 9 p.m. on Nov. 3 from someone who found a body on a trail by Big Lake, near Inuvik.

On Thursday, RCMP identified the man as Binder, and said it had asked Edmonton police to investigate his disappearance and death.

Mounties have not released the man’s cause of death, or said whether it is suspicious. Police are asking for tips from people who had seen Binder between Oct. 25, when he last had contact with police, and Nov. 3.

Edmonton police and Northwest Territories RCMP did not immediately return calls Saturday.
