Day 1 of Villa Park Classic girls water polo tournament cancelled due to weather

Thursday’s scheduled start to the 32-team Villa Park Classic, one of the top girls water polo tournaments of the season, has been cancelled due to expected thunder and lightning this afternoon in Orange County, tournament organizer John Kulisich announced moments ago.

“Safety is of concern for buses traveling to the schools,” said Kulisich, who said a revised schedule would be released later Thursday.

The top-four seeds are Orange Lutheran, reigning CIF-SS Division 1 champion San Marcos, Los Alamitos and Dos Pueblos, last season’s Division 1 runner-up.

Orange Lutheran and Los Alamitos both qualified for the Division 1 playoffs last season.
