Craig David could finally win a Brit after EIGHTEEN years of snubs as he goes head-to-head with Sam Smith and George Ezra for Best Solo Male

CRAIG David could finally win a Brit Award for the first time – after being snubbed by the music awards for 18 long years.

The 37-year-old has been nominated in the British Male Solo category, going up against Sam Smith, George Ezra, Giggs and Aphex Twin.

Southampton-born Craig was first in the running to win a Brit back in 2001, when he was nominated a staggering six categories, including best single, male solo artist and breakthrough act.

However, it proved to be a heartbreaking night because he didn’t win any of them, with Robbie Williams walking off with both the single and soloist prizes.

Craig later quit the UK and moved to Miami after becoming a figure of ridicule as a running joke in Leigh Francis‘ Channel 4 show Bo Selecta!

But he burst back onto the British music scene in 2016 after a decade-long absence from pop’s big league.

Dua Lipa leads this year’s Brit Awards nominations with four nods, while George Ezra and Anne-Marie each have three.

The 23-year-old singer appears twice in the British Single category with her hits IDGAF and Calvin Harris collab One Kiss, and the same two songs also feature in the British Artist Video Of The Year list.

She missed out in the British Female Solo category, with industry bods opting for Florence And The Machine, Jorja Smith, Lily Allen, Jess Glynne and Anne-Marie.

Meanwhile, George Ezra is contention for the big Album Of The Year Prize alongside Anne-Marie, Florence, The 1975 and Jorja.

Anne-Marie’s other category is Video Of The Year, the most hotly contested with 10 tracks up for consideration.

The only award from the 2019 awards to have already been decided is the Critics’ Choice, which went to 22-year-old Sam Fender.

The North Shields lad joins a stellar alumni including Adele and Sam Smith and Rag ‘n’ Bone Man.

Liam Payne and Rita Ora produced a sizzling performance of their hit For You from the Fifty Shades Freed soundtrack at last year’s awards – and the track has earned them a nod in the Video category.

Dua’s haul of four sees her lead by example, after calling for further female success at last year’s ceremony.

Collecting her British Female Solo gong, she told the O2 Arena audience: “Here’s to more women standing on stages, more women winning awards and more women taking over the world.”

The Brits isn’t the only taste of success she had last year.

She received a GQ Award for Solo Artist of the Year, while she also made headlines after her China concert took a shocking turn, with heavy-handed police officers dragging out fans who got up to dance and waved a rainbow flag.
