Colton Koop’s body found near submerged truck in Swift Current creek

RCMP divers have located the body of Colton Koop, who had been missing since a truck was found partially submerged three weeks ago in a creek in Swift Current.

The ‘F’ Division underwater recovery team found Koop, 26, under the ice on Saturday morning, upstream from where the truck came to rest.

Police had previously said a red Dodge truck was apparently southbound on Sixth Avenue NE in Swift Current when it left the roadway, crashed through the east guard rail and ended up in the icy creek, where it was spotted by a passerby on Nov. 16.

Swift Current RCMP responded to a call from a passerby who found a truck partially submerged in a creek along 6th Avenue northeast around 6 a.m. on Nov. 16, 2018.

The owner of the truck had told police that Koop would have had access to the truck prior to the incident.

On Friday, Swift Current municipal RCMP said a dive team would be returning to the site. The RCMP underwater recovery team had attended the scene on Nov. 17, but didn’t find anyone in the water immediately under or around the truck.

Koop’s family said in a statement a week after he went missing that they were “actively searching” for him and taking things day-by-day.

In a news release Saturday, Swift Current municipal RCMP said officers are continuing their investigation into the motor vehicle collision.
