Calgary man arrested at Cancun airport after gun, ammo found in luggage

A Canadian citizen has been arrested in Mexico after allegedly bringing a gun with him on a flight, according to Mexican reports.

Mexican media reported Friday that a Calgary man arriving on a WestJet flight was found to be concealing a Colt .25 automatic handgun and ammunition in a checked bag.

The report states the man, identified only as Timoty N, lacked necessary documentation to bring the weapon into Mexico and was arrested at Cancun International Airport.

Global Affairs Canada confirmed Friday afternoon that a Canadian citizen has been arrested in Mexico, adding they were unable to disclose any other information.

WestJet said they are looking into the reports.

More to come.
