Britney Spears has announced her indefinite hiatus from the music businesss – including putting her Las Vegas show on hold.
The pop singer revealed her decision on social media, saying that she’d made the decision to look after her father Jamie Spears, who has fallen seriously ill.
“I don’t even know where to start with this, because this is so tough for me to say,” she wrote on Twitter.
“I will not be performing my new show Domination. I’ve been looking forward to this show and seeing all of you this year, so doing this breaks my heart,’ she shared on social media after the news broke.
“However, it’s important to always put your family first… and that’s the decision I had to make. A couple of months ago, my father was hospitalized and almost died. We’re all so grateful that he came out of it alive, but he still has a long road ahead of him.”
She added: “I appreciate your prayers and support for my family during this time. Thank you, and love you all… always.”
Mr Spears was rushed to hospital in November 2018 after his colon spontaneously ruptured. He underwent emergency surgery and spent 28 days in hospital.
He is expected to make a full recovery and is currently rehabilitating at home.
“I am dedicating my focus and energy to care for my family. We have a very special relationship and I want to be with my family at this time just like they have always been there for me,” Britney continued.
“Thank you to all my fans for your continued love and support during this time. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and I look forward to the time when I can be back on stage performing for all of you.”
Piece of Me
Britney confirmed her most recent Las Vegas residency just three months ago – a year after her last residency on the strip, Piece of Me, ended.
Piece of Me was originally launched in 2013 and only expected to last for two years, but was extended for an additional two years because demand was so high.
The show grossed over $135 million.
