Belgian tourist death in Canada: man charged with the tourist’s murder

CBC says a man was charged with murder on Saturday, following the death of a Belgian tourist in British Columbia (West Canada) at the end of August.

The body of a young woman was found near Boston Bar, around 200km north-east of Vancouver, on the 22nd of August. The victim was identified by police as 28-year-old Belgian national Amélie Sakkalis, who was travelling through Canada.

Police say she was hitch-hiking to Vancouver, the metropolis on the west-Canadian coast. They have asked anyone who may have picked her up to get in touch.

The day before her death, the young woman posted a message asking for someone to drive her to Vancouver.

CBC says the man charged with her murder is called Sean Ryan William McKenzie, but hasn’t provided any other information.
