Annual Sun Adopt-a-Family program needs your help this giving season

Now in its 36th year, the Calgary Sun Adopt-a-Family is looking for your help in assisting a Calgary family in need.

It’s easy for you to get involved and easy for you to spread this Christmas cheer ahead of this giving season.

All it takes is a donation around $200 for each family member — whether it be a gift card to a grocery store, new clothing or other gifts they could use.

The Sun interviews families in need, finding out just what household supplies they require, and gathers a wish list for each family member. As a sponsor, you would receive the interview form highlighting those requests.

Diba, Fernando and their 14-month-old daughter Catalinea are just one of the families that have already been helped this season.

The family said they needed towels, face cloths, sheets and blankets for the house while Diba, who is pregnant, due in December and not working, needs sweaters and sweatshirts, boots and a winter coat. The family was in need of stuffed animals, baby toys and baby supplies like diapers, sleepers and wipes.

Fernando, who works outdoors, asked for warm socks and other winter gear.

Catalinea was in need of winter gear of her own and had books, noisy things and blocks on her wish list.

Thanks to generous Sun readers and the Adopt-a-Family program, this Calgary family will be helped out with the items they need and the toddler will have presents waiting for her on Christmas morning.

You can sign up to be a sponsor by calling the Sun Adopt-a-Family line at 403-250-4197, or sign up at www.adoptafamily2018.hscampaigns.com.
