Set to be unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show on November 28th, the 2020 Palisade is named after an “affluent and beautiful neighborhood in Southern California.” While the crossover doesn’t have ocean views or a terracotta roof, Hyundai says the range-topping model will have a “bold exterior that commands attention.” The company also said customers can look forward to an “understated theme that demonstrates clear differentiation worthy of a flagship SUV.”
The Palisade will be aimed at growing families and feature “commodious cargo space” as well as seating for up to eight people. The company also said the crossover will have premium materials, intuitive technologies and intelligent safety features.
While Hyundai’s press release was light on details, previous spy photos have shown the model will resemble the HDC-2 Grandmaster concept which was introduced at the Busan Motor Show earlier this year. Styling details are hidden underneath camouflage, but the Palisade will feature a prominent grille which is reminiscent of the one used on the Santa Fe.
One of the crossover’s more distinctive styling features its chrome window trim which slopes downward towards the C-pillar. This feature carries over from the HDC-2 Grandmaster concept and it should help set the Palisade apart from the competition.
Little else is known about the model, but the Palisade will have a lot in common with the 2020 Kia Telluride which will debut at the North American International Auto Show early next year. Both models are expected to ride on the same platform and Kia has already said its version of the crossover is “several inches longer and wider” than the Sorento. The Telluride will be powered by a V6 engine and it could be the Sorento’s 3.3-liter V6 that produces 290 hp (216 kW / 294 PS) and 252 lb-ft (341 Nm) of torque.
Regardless of the final specifications, the 2020 Palisade will go on sale in the United States next summer.
