Officials say a 17-year-old is dead after a serious head-on collision east of Black Diamond.
Mounties from the Turner Valley detachment were called to a stretch of Highway 7 just east of Black Diamond, around 65 kilometres southwest of Calgary, just after 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
EMS spokesperson Jeff Walker said a 17-year-old was pronounced dead on the scene. Another 17-year-old was taken by ground ambulance to a Calgary hospital while a STARS air ambulance transported a third person to hospital.
Staff Sgt. John Spaans with the RCMP said traffic in the area will be impacted by the crash “for the foreseeable future.”
“The highway is impassable at this time due to the collision and emergency response,” Spaans said in a statement. “Detours have been established to move traffic around the collision scene.”
He said drivers should steer clear of the area and find alternate routes as “detours are expected to be in place for the next several hours.”
Walker couldn’t confirm the genders or conditions of those injured in the crash.
